Could artificial intelligence and robots trigger mass unemployment and the collapse of the economy?

The answer is yes, and no. Yes, they will most likely cause mass unemployment. An Oxford University study points to a probable 47% of the worlds jobs to be lost due to automation from robots or artificial intelligence within the next 20 years. No, the economy need not collapse if certain precautions are taken and the proper social programs are put in place.

Myanmar, formerly Burma, has been governed directly or indirectly by a male dominated military junta since March 2nd 1962, when the military led by General Ne Win took control through a coup d’état. Between the time of the military coup and 1974 the government conducted a complete take over of all economic and media activity in a soviet style nationalization they called “Burmese Way to Socialism”.

Positive and Destructive Leaders

Positive leaders motivate, inspire, guide, build people’s characters and recognize human potential. Positive leaders overcomes obstacles, solve problems, teach by example and inspire followers. They create and share their positive vision. They turn negativity into positive outcomes. Positive leaders aspire to reach the higher ground. They make the team stronger.

Destructive leaders are by nature selfish. They are not concerned about the team’s objectives, only about furthering their own agenda. Destructive leaders instill fear, division and hate. Destructive leaders attempts only to accomplish those goals and objectives that build and embolden their twisted egos.

A Business Traveler in Central America. A fiction short story

It was June of 1985. Central America was a powder keg. Civil wars raged in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Panama was dealing with President Manuel Noriega, a head of state largely considered a thug, a thief and a drug dealer. Costa Rica, called the Switzerland of Central America was the only place travelers could feel relatively safe. This was the environment with which business travelers had to contend when trekking through this region.

George Nichols was one of these unfortunate business travelers who oftentimes found themselves at the juncture between two countries where life was often cheap and safety was at best haphazard.

NATO or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization traces its history to April 4th, 1949 when the North Atlantic Treaty was signed in Washington, D.C. by ten Western European countries, Canada and the United States. Since the original signing, NATO has been joined by an additional sixteen countries from most of Western Europe, some ex-Soviet Bloc Central Europe countries and Turkey considered part of the Eurasia-Southern Europe region.

Today NATO’s twenty-eight country coalition is the one single bloc standing in the way of any expansionistic desires Russia’s Putin might be harboring. Vladimir Putin, the ex-KGB agent, current president of Russia and a superb geopolitical strategist understands this fully. No one on the face of the earth should for one second doubt that Putin, if given the opportunity would not invade countries like Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, plus a handful of other countries once under the control of the Soviet Union. In fact, Putin himself once said “‘The breakup of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical tragedy of the 20th century.”

How Different Cultures View Time

In Germany you can set your watch by the arrival and departure of trains. A business associate in Frankfurt once told me that if she has an appointment at 9:00 AM, she makes sure to arrive at 8:57 AM. The reason is that it takes one minute for her client to beckon her to come into his office, one minute to walk to the office, and one minute to enter, sit down and settle into the chair. This would ensure that the meeting can start promptly at 9:00 AM as scheduled. Her logic was obsessively precise.

If you are ever in Brazil and you are invited to a party at 8:00 PM, you can show up punctually at that time if you want to see your hosts in their bathrobes and are willing to help in the setup of the get-together. Get ready to help inflate balloons, and make sure there are plenty of beer in the cooler since the invited guests will not be arriving until at least 8:45 PM or later.

There is no need to go into a lot of explanation about Uber the company. Their origin, the service they provide and most of all the controversies surrounding the company which range from driver strikes, to murder, rape, rider abuse by drivers, and driver abuse by riders, are all well known. In fact, one thing you can always count on is an article on Uber. Some positive some negative. Recently I read one about how much Uber drivers actually make which I found not to be very accurate or even coming up with a conclusion grounded on facts.

The vast majority of people know quite a bit about Uber; even Lyft for that matter, the other TNC or Transportation Network Company. What most people don’t know, including many of the drivers themselves, is how much money a driver really makes. Nets in other words.
